Episode 18 - Switching to Smash

A terrible war had broken out. Light and darkness were fighting a bitter battle. Fearing that the battle could spill over into worlds that they watch over, BIT Squad decided to intervene. However, the lord of light, Galeem, had a trump card prepared. In one apocalyptic moment, the world's heroes were wiped out in a terrible flash of light... all but Kirby, who clearly used a cheat code. (Because Kirby riding the Warp Star actually IS a spirit, so I guess no one & nothing could really survive that.) Even BIT Squad, as they attempted to intervene, were wiped out. Vixy, Cupie, Dusk, Stripes, Zed and Dogson were all reduced to spirits. Blocky & Gator were back at Byte Space to watch over the multiverse just in case this sort of thing should happen. What of 2BIT? ...He knew some cheat codes, too.

*Avengers Theme plays* "Wait a minute! Wrong theme! Where's Lifelight??" Blocky says. "We're in the Endgame now!" Gator replies.
(I'm gonna take this just as seriously as Nintendo took Smash Ultimate's story; not at all.)

2BIT opened his eyes after Galeem's apocalypse, and found the world had been remade. Locations from various worlds had been mish-mashed together, forming a plot consistency nightmare. 2BIT found himself wandering a small Animal Crossing village. "This should be my town. I always name it DOOM figuring it'll be doomed when I stop paying attention to it..." 2BIT murmured, casually breaking the fourth wall. He was way past pretending the fourth wall was intact at this point. As he walked, he came across a gold-winged Pit and a dark clothed Shulk. "Alts! Oh, crap, this can't be good... Well, I'll SMASH ya!" he smirked, prepping a Mii Gunner-type arm cannon. "Go ahead, blast me... I'm already dead anyway..." said "Shulk." His voice had a familiar negative tone. "...Dusk?? Uhh... Well, you're looking buff today..." 2BIT muttered, tilting his head in confusion. "Pit" danced about flitting his wings and looking excessively cheerful. "Look at this bright and beautiful day! And I feel cuter and more angelic than ever, teehee!" This was Cupie's voice coming out of Pit's mouth. 2BIT lowered his gun and let it disappear. "Galeem took your spirits and crammed them into alts of Shulk and Pit?? If I didn't know better, I'd say it was an assets-saving measure to avoid making Smash Run type enemies..." 2BIT muttered, staring out across the cosmos with a cold look, somehow seeming to glare at the game director. Cupie chuckled. "Silly! It was supposed to let him control us like the glowy-eyed other guys, but it seems like BIT Squad is immune to the brainwashing!" he explained. Dusk held his head and groaned. "Enemies... charging after Kirby... That way!" he muttered. "How?" 2BIT asked. "Shulk has visions of the future, apparently. Sucks to be him..." Dusk sighed.

With his arm-cannon re-equipped, 2BIT followed Dusk to the source of his vision. They left the village and found a small forest nearby that Kirby was running through along with a small group of companions. They also noticed Waluigi hiding behind a tree, waiting to ambush them, along with a purple Luigi. "He must be bitter. Never playable, and an assist trophy doesn't even qualify for one of these battles on its own, he needs to have Luigi along or he's not allowed at all... Now, do I really want credit for knocking him out of the story?" 2BIT murmured. As Waluigi and his plumber spirit vessel turned around, Mr. Resetti popped out of the ground between them and 2BIT! "Halt! No resettin!!" he shouted. Cupie knelt down and playfully poked at the mole. "Silly-billy, games don't reset anymore!" he giggled. "You hittin' me? Take that!!" he shouted, smacking Cupie across the forest with his pickaxe! "Yeah, sorry, he was in my vision, too. Shoulda said something..." Dusk murmured. Waluigi started to charge at them as the purple Luigi crept towards them at a slower pace. "Do we really gotta fight? You guys are already dead anyway..." Dusk murmured. Not giving him a chance to talk his way out of it, Waluigi started furiously kicking Dusk before swatting him away with a tennis racket! "Oooh... That always looks painful... Alright, it's go time...!" 2BIT jumped over Waluigi, hopped off Resetti's head, and pointed his arm cannon at the unassuming Luigi at the rear. "Those guys are assist trophies... You're the ringleader here!" he said, charging up a shot and firing!

When Dusk and Cupie came to, they found 2BIT being followed by the spirit of Waluigi. "Guys, I can't shake him..." he groaned. "Wah hah hah! It's Waluigi time! Let's smash already!" the spirit cackled. "I think he plans to help us in exchange for freeing his spirit, teehee!" Cupie giggled. "Sucks to be you, 2BIT..." Dusk sighed. 2BIT glanced at Waluigi's spirit and sighed. "Why couldn't I start with something like Rayman or Knuckles or Vulpix?" he murmured. Waluigi swatted him with his tennis racket, even though it went right through him. "Yeah, yeah... Come on, guys. Let's find the others and fix this mess. We gotta get Waluigi back to his... hey, what exactly do you do when you're not playing games with Mario's group?" he asked. Waluigi turned and scratched his head. "Hrmmm... Ermm... Wait... Waaaaah!!" he gasped, realizing after a moment that 2BIT was trying to leave without him. "Get back here! Cheater! Waaaah!!" Seemed they'd be stuck with Waluigi for a while...
