Do you think more furries in the mainstream will hurt or improve the image of the fandom to the public?

This is partly inspired by the recent win of Sonicfox and the article that came with it.

I'm very curious to what people will say in the comments about this poll, and what the results will be :D

I'm a different furry with different opinions.

Debut Album out now go stream it plz

My take on furry and media is of course in the words of a scarecrow: "It's context sensitive"

However, given the big ol' cluster that has been covered in the mainstream these days, I think people welcome a fluffier reprieve.

As far as gaming news goes, it's not quite mainstream, I mean competitive gaming is fledgling and growing. People who are nerdy enough to watch competitive gaming are probably going to be nerdy enough to know what a furry is.

As long as we don't dismiss the opportunity to collectively pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and consider us done with the underdog position (like the case with other former subcultures such as Jazz and Rock), I think more furries in the mainstream only improves the image of the fandom. With visibility comes responsibility.

Well, depends on the furry who gets mainstream, don't it?

I mean, like, if some asshole gets famous for being an asshole, whoops.

On the other hand, if I get famous, well, obviously there's not downside to that, I think we can all agree.

Partly what Crossaffliction said but overall it should be positive for furry's image. Whether it will have a positive effect on the furry fandom itself is another question. Kinda like how Game of Thrones is great for the image of huskies but it's not great for a lot of huskies. (Huskies are awesome!)

I think it will cut down on the amount of sensational 'look at the freaks' stories that will be done on the fandom. Basically people have gotten used to us existing and if they aren't part of it, they will ignore it because it's no longer a big deal to them. It also means that some of those who got into furry just to try to be edgy will have to find something else if that remains their motivation. We've been placed in a comfortable fandom compartment by many and I'm fine with that.

I honestly feel that this is kinda useless considering how subjective this might be.
Some say harmless things make an "image" look bad.

I don't want the fandom to be controlled in favor of society, which sounds horrible. Society outside of furry in general are not perfect too.

So why bother? Furry is just a group of people where some won't behave as well as another, just like anyone else in the world.

My thoughts. :)

Furbashing has run its course. It ended almost 10 years ago. It's no longer some fringe group that makes a convenient target to turn into a dirty joke. Contrast how Furry was treated in THAT *CSI* episode in 2003 and how it was treated just this week oi\n *Lucifer*. Cons bring in so much money to local economies, and travel agencies, airlines, car rentals, hotel chains that it's no longer a good idea to be pissing off so many potential paying customers.
